CID – Communication Interaction DelaysThe CID classrooms are busy places. Although the number of students in these district wide programs are usually small (six to nine students) the needs of the students vary and they have a need for very individualized plans. The programs have a heavy focus on communication; the teachers and the speech pathologists work very closely to develop the communication skills of these students. Within these classrooms you would see a variety of communication methods including picture boards, augmentation communication devices and signing. Assistive technology is a crucial aspect of planning for these students. Their academic needs tend to be more functional in nature. Often, due to the communication needs, they are also learning interaction strategies. General education time is planned for these students where they have symbol supported parallel curriculum that follow their mainstream classes.
